• McCallum is one of the the few communities on the south coast of Newfoundland. It is accessible by a two hour ferry ride)) from Hermitage. There are no roads in the town, but boardwalks suitable for ATV traffic are present.

Fishery was the way of life for over a century here and at one point the population was over 100 people.

Currently the population of the town is decreasing, with about 42 permanent residents and 4 kids in the school. The community recently voted for Resettlement. While most residents want to leave, McCallum needs 90 per cent of votes in order to get financial help from the government.

It is a very quiet and peaceful place where you can feel an old rhythm of life, something that is more and more hard to find in our modern world. It is great to see that places like this still exist, and I hope it will remain in the future.

 • There are some very remote and relatively unknown fjords and villages no the South Coast of Newfoundland. Probably, I was the first person who walked from Devil Bay to the Francois. I was dropped off on the coast by boat and than made my way back to town through the wilderness. It was an amazing experience to walk without a path having only a topographic map to get an idea what the views are going to be like. The small villages are very quiet and peaceful where you can feel an old rhythm of life, something that is more and more hard to find in our modern world.

 • View to the St Alban's Wall over Rencontre Bay, this one is even steeper and just as high as known Blow Me Down, but probably to hard to consider for climbing.
